Youth Basketball

Youth Basketball

Basketball was invented in 1891. While teaching at the International YMCA Training School, James Naismith was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. By hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game.

The YMCA of Coastal Georgia’s Youth Basketball league is open to kids ages 3-14. Every child will participate in every game and should receive equal playing time, regardless of skill level. Our association’s goal is to develop skills on and off the court by athletes getting to work on team building, good sportsmanship, and the fundamental skills basketball.  All coaches are safe coach certified and have passed background screenings.  Teams continue to practice throughout the season.  Most age groups and locations have inter Y play with an end of season tournament.  Tournament winners posted in local newspapers.
