Swim Lessons

71% of the world is water, children are 100% curious. Drowning can happen nearly anywhere with standing water. But, as a parent or caregiver, you can’t keep your children sidelined. You need to equip them with the tools they need to be confident in and around water so they don’t lose out on the health benefits of exercise, the opportunities to bond with family and friends, and the sense of accomplishment when they learn new skills.

With our YMCA of Coastal Georgia’s Safety Around Water program will enrich children and adults how to properly and safely move in the water. We offer private, semi-private, and group lessons at various branches. As we are a part of the Coastal Empire, it is vital that everyone learn how to swim.

Stage 4/5 – Stoke Mechanics

Can your child consistently swim the length of our pool but wants to learn more?  Then stage 4/5 is for you!

In stage 4/5, your swimmer will learn the basic mechanics of all 4 competitive strokes (Freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke).

Classes will vary based on the needs of the students.  The skills taught may include more efficient breathing, kicking, and arm mechanics in a competitive free environment.

Swimmers at this level are well positioned for joining our competitive swim team.

Each session is two weeks long (except for 1 week mini-sessions) with lessons being held Monday-Thursday and Friday being reserved for a make up day due to weather or pool issues. Each lesson will be 45 minutes each.

WATER MOVEMENT ENCOURAGES FORWARD MOVEMENT IN WATER AND BASIC SELF-RESCUE SKILLS PERFORMED INDEPENDENTLY.
Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: swim, float, swim—sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit—and jump, push, turn, grab. In Water Acclimation, Water Movement, and Water Stamina, students are taught the recommended skills for all to have around water including safe water habits, underwater exploration, and how to swim to safety and exit in the event of falling into a body of water. Activities, games, and drills, geared to reinforce learning, are utilized heavily as students progress in this skill-based approach to swimming.
